“Investing in resilience " to convene international and regional pension funds
Under the patronage of the Prime Minister Dr. Omar Razzaz, the Social Security Investment Fund (SSIF) and United Nations Development Program (UNDP) - Jordan are organizing a virtual conversations series titled Pension Funds: " Investing in Resilience " on September 28 -30 with the participation of many international and regional pension funds. This first of its kind event in the region aims to exchange experiences on the significant contribution of pension funds’ investments to the strengthen economic growth and to alleviate the negative impact of socio-economic crises, with great attention to the sustainable development impact of these investments on the local communities. It also aims to spot the light on the importance of impact investing in emerging and developing countries, contributing to the economic growth, eradication of poverty, unemployment inequalities and also to achieving the sustainable development goals (SDGs). A number of key figures will be speaking at the event including the Prime Minister Dr. Omar Razzaz, UNDP Administrator Achim Steiner, Minister of Labor / Chairman of the Social Security Corporation Board of Directors Nidal Bataineh, Minister of Digital Economy and Entrepreneurship Mothanna Gharaibeh, SSIF CEO Kholoud Saqqaf and Resident Representative of UNDP Jordan Sara Ferrer Olivella, in addition to high level speakers from international pension funds and investment funds, namely Denmark, Sweden, the Netherlands, Norway, Canada and Kenya. The event will also be attended by selected experts from the Arab pension funds and the public and private sector representatives from Jordan and other Arab states.
The Social Security Corporation (SSC) is a major investor in the tourism sector. Geographically, its portfolio covers most parts of the Kingdom through direct and indirect investments.
SSIF invests in the energy sector through strategic holdings in electricity generation and distribution companies, in addition to renewable energy projects
Al Daman for Development Zones Company (DDC) was established in 2009 as a private shareholding company fully owned by the Social Security Corporation. DDC is the investment arm of the Investment Fund for infrastructure development, services and marketing for the King Hussein Bin Talal Development Area in Al Mafraq and the Irbid Development Area
The value of the equity portfolio amounted to around JD 2,699.6 million as at 31/03/2025
The portfolio consists of money market instruments with maturity dates that do not exceed one year, such as deposits, treasury bills, repurchase agreements, certificates of deposit and current accounts.
The Fund invests in medium and long term loans through direct lending to the Jordanian Government and its public institutions, and also by participating in syndicated loans to companies for a period that is not less than one year.
In September 2020, SSIF established a wholly owned company that will launch an agricultural project in the south on an area of 30,000 dunums with a total investment of JD 13 million
