His Majesty the King and Abu Dhabi Crown Prince Witness Groundbreaking of Aqaba-Shidiya-Ma'an Railway Project

October 07, 2026

His Majesty King Abdullah II and His Highness Sheikh Khaled bin Mohamed bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Crown Prince of Abu Dhabi and Chairman of the Abu Dhabi Executive Council, witnessed the laying of the foundation stone for the Aqaba-Shidiya-Ma'an Railway Project, one of the most prominent rail transport projects in Jordan.

The project is the Social Security Investment Fund's (SSIF) first investment in the rail transport sector, through a 7% stake in the project company. This investment is part of a broader approach to exploring future investment opportunities in the national railway network.

The importance of this investment goes beyond its direct impact to include its indirect effects, particularly given SSIF's investments in strategic companies such as the Jordan Phosphate Mines Company and the Arab Potash Company. The project is expected to lower transportation costs, raise operational efficiency and improve logistics services. It is also expected to reduce the environmental impact of conventional heavy transport.

SSIF's participation in such projects alongside strategic investors from Jordan and the brotherly United Arab Emirates adds significant value on more than one level: for the Fund, for the national economy and for the project itself, by enhancing efficiency and the integration of roles.
